Inquiries are received regarding the supported backup solutions for the VMware Identity Manager 3.3.7 appliance, specifically regarding the sufficiency of vCenter snapshots, the need for third-party utilities, and the ability to recover from severe system corruption or cyber attacks.

VMware Identity Manager 3.3.7 

Resolution

• There is no inbuilt, native, or application-level backup utility available within the VMware Identity Manager 3.3.7 appliance.

• Implement a third-party backup solution to obtain a full and consistent appliance backup.

• Do not rely on vCenter snapshots (live or offline) as a substitute for a robust, long-term backup strategy. Retaining vCenter snapshots long-term can degrade storage performance and cause service instability.
