Unable to open XenServer probe due to .NET Framework 3.5 error

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to open/configure the XenServer probe, fails with the error: "The following feature couldn't install: .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0)."

Environment

• Product: DX Unified Infrastructure Management (UIM)
• Probe: XenServer
• Component: Infrastructure Manager (IM)
• OS: Windows Server (running the Infrastructure Manager)

Cause

The XenServer probe requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (which includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0) to be enabled on the host machine where the Infrastructure Manager (IM) is currently running. This feature is not enabled by default on many Windows Server installations, and the probe cannot function in an environment where this prerequisite is missing.

Resolution

To resolve this installation failure, follow these steps to enable the required feature on your Windows Server host:

1. Access Server Manager: Open Server Manager on the host machine.
2. Add Roles and Features: Click Manage and select Add Roles and Features.
3. Select Features: Proceed to the Features tab in the wizard.
4. Enable .NET Framework 3.5: Expand .NET Framework 3.5 Features and check the box for .NET Framework 3.5 (includes .NET 2.0 and 3.0).
5. Specify Source Path:
   • Proceed to the Confirmation screen.
   • Click the link Specify an alternate source path.
   • Enter the path to the SxS folder located on your mounted installation media (e.g., D:\sources\sxs).
   • Click OK.
6. Complete Installation: Click Install.
7. Verify: Once the installation is complete, retry the XenServer probe installation/configuration via Infrastructure Manager.
