Issue/Introduction

When utilizing VMware vSAN File Services, administrators may attempt to log into the vSAN File Service VMs (FSVMs) to configure local credentials or perform manual management tasks. Documentation does not provide default usernames or passwords for these appliance nodes.

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.0 U3

Cause

The FSVMs are exclusively deployed and managed automatically by the underlying vSAN File Services framework. Direct interaction, manual operations, or local credential management on these virtual appliances are strictly unsupported by design.

Resolution

  • Do not attempt to log into, establish local credentials on, or manually manage the FSVM appliances.

  • Execute all vSAN File Services configurations and management operations exclusively via the vSphere Client or authorized vCenter API endpoints.
