How to add Attributes as Search Criteria for Spectrum Global Collections

I need to add an attribute to the Search Criteria for a Global Collections and i am not sure how this is done. How do you add an attribute to the search criteria for a Global Collection?

For instance, I want to add the attribute "USER_AssetTag" (0x12bfb) to the Search Criteria of a Global Collection.

Environment

Release: All Supported Releases
Component: SPCCSS - SpectroSERVER Core

Resolution

To add an attribute to a Global Collections Search:

  • Locate the Global collection in the Navigation pane – Explorer Tab in OneClick

  • Look in the Component Detail Pane – Information Tab under the “General Information” subview to locate the “Edit Global Collection…” button.

  • Select the “Edit Global Collection…” button to open the Edit Global Collection dialog window.

  • Select the “Search Options…” button to open the Search Options dialog window.

  • This is the view were you will build the search criteria for the Global Collection. Select the “Attribute…” button to bring up a list of available attributes for the Model Type you are wanting to search on.
  • The left hand side of the Attribute Selector dialog window is where you would select the specific model type you are working with. Not all attributes are available for all model types. If you are looking for a specific Device model attribute, you will want to expand the Device folder for a list of device model types. Likewise expanding the Port folder will provide a list of port model types, and the Other folder will contain a list of all other model types, such as Users, User Groups, Applications, etc.

Since you are wanting to use the “User_AssetTag” attribute (0x12bfb), you should be able to simply filter on “USER”, by entering USER in the Show field under the Attributes portion of the view, to see all the USER_ attributes. The USER_ attributes are generally universal for all model types.

  • Select the “USER_AssetTag” attribute and click OK.

  • This will take you back to the Search Options dialog window. Enter the Comparison Type you wish to use. By default the “Equal To” comparison will be selected. Your choices are:
    • Equal To
    • Matches Pattern (used when running a RegExp pattern search or wild card)
    • Not Equal To
    • Contains
    • Does Not Contain
    • Starts With
    • Does Not Start With
    • Ends With
    • Does Not End With
  • Enter the value you want to match against in the “Attribute Value” field.
  • If you need to create a complex search with multiple attribute values, select the “Show Advanced >>” button to see the structure of the search.
  • Click the “Add” button to add the search criteria to the search
  • Set the Update Options as needed. Be cautious setting up “Real-Time Update” search, since these can require significant amounts of resources on the SpectroSERVER and cause degraded performance for both Spectrum and OneClick.

  • Click OK to save and close out of the Search Options dialog window.
  • Click OK to close out of the Edit Global Collection dialog window.
