Issue/Introduction

What This Means for Your Operations

If your system encounters a critical bug or requires security maintenance, you will be unable to apply any new PTFs, bug fixes, or updates until your environment meets the new runtime requirements. While existing builds running on Java 8 will continue to function, your environment is now locked out of all future product maintenance until upgraded.

Resolution

Updated Platform & Build Requirements

To remain supported and eligible for product updates, your Web Viewer r12.1 environment must meet the following criteria:

·       Java 11 (64-bit) is the minimum supported version (requires Web Viewer Build 180+).

·       Java 17 (64-bit) is the recommended target today to immediately exit Java 8 and restore maintenance eligibility for future PTFs.  (requires Web Viewer Build 255+)

·       Java 21 (64-bit): Certification testing is actively underway. Broadcom recognizes the upcoming lifecycle dates for Java 17 and is committed to supporting JDK21. Official certification will be announced as soon as testing completes, giving you a clear path to the next LTS baseline.

·       Application Server:

o   Apache Tomcat 9.0.120 or newer (with PTF LU21312) is required.

o   Apache Tomcat 10.x remains unsupported and must not be used.

o   IBM WebSphere (WAS): Supported only when using the embedded Java 8 runtime that is built directly into IBM WebSphere Application Server. (Note: Third-party or standalone Java 8 runtimes used with WAS are not supported).

o   IBM WebSphere Liberty: Certification testing is actively underway. Broadcom currently remains committed to supporting Liberty, and official certification will be announced as soon as testing is complete.

·       Required PTFs: PTF LU18671 is required for general Java 17 support.

Next Steps for Un-Upgraded Environments

If you have not yet migrated off Java 8, please execute the following upgrade path as soon as possible:

1.     Audit: Identify your current Java level, Tomcat version, and Web Viewer build level.

2.     Plan: Target an upgrade directly to JDK 17 (64-bit) to restore maintenance eligibility for future PTFs today, while keeping Java 21 on your organization's technical roadmap once certified.

3.     Upgrade Infrastructure: Move to Apache Tomcat 9.0.120+ and apply PTF LU21312.

4.     Update Web Viewer: Update to Web Viewer Build 255+ and apply PTF LU21311.

5.     Validate: Test in non-production environments before deploying current PTFs to production.
