Issue/Introduction

When downloading updates from the Broadcom Support Portal, you may notice that some ESXi releases offer a bootable ISO, while others only provide a Depot ZIP bundle. This article clarifies the distribution policy.

Environment

• VMware vSphere ESXi

Cause

• Base Releases: Major versions and baseline updates (e.g., 8.0, 8.0 Update 3) are provided as Full ISO installers for fresh installations or full upgrades.

• Patch Releases: Security patches and maintenance updates (e.g., 8.0 Update 3k) are typically released only as Depot ZIP files (offline bundles). These are intended for patching existing environments using vSphere Lifecycle Manager (vLCM) or esxcli commands.

Resolution

If you are unable to find an ISO for a specific ESXi patch:

1. Log in to the Broadcom Support Portal.
2. Navigate to My Downloads > vSphere.
3. Switch the tab to Solutions (rather than Products).
4. Search for the specific patch version. If it is a patch release, you will find the Depot ZIP file here.
