Issue/Introduction

  • All the connectivity between vCenter, SRM and vSphere replication servers appears healthy.

  • When replication is enabled, the task completes but an error appears during synchronization.

  • Error appears on vCenter UI for VM in replication as: "No connection to VR Server for virtual machine: Not responding"

  • From Site Recovery UI, vSphere Replication displays error:: "A replication error occurred at the vSphere Replication Server for replication 'VM_NAME'. Details: 'No connection to VR Server for virtual machine on host [HOST_NAME] in cluster [CLUSTER] in Server Farm:Unknown'"

Cause

Two vmkernels have 'Management' service enabled.

Resolution

Followed the steps:

  1. Login to vCenter and select ESXi host part of the cluster that is doing replication
  2. Go to 'Configure' tab and select 'VMkernel adapters' 
  3. Check the Enabled services and confirm 'Management' service is only enabled on 1 vmkernel.
  4. If its enabled on more than one vmk, then 'Management' service must be removed from the 2nd vmkernel.
  5. Repeat above process for other hosts in the cluster.
  6. Check replication status on the VM in Site Recovery UI.
