VMware vMotion is Not Supported for Panorama Virtual Appliance

Issue/Introduction

• When attempting to migrate a Panorama virtual appliance using VMware vMotion, administrators may see the process fail or stall. During this attempt, the following warning message is displayed within the VMware environment
  • "No guest OS heartbeats are being received. Either the guest OS is not responding or VMware Tools is not configured correctly."

• Panorama Virtual Appliance

• VMware ESXi 7.x 

• VMware ESXi 8.x 

 

Cause

This warning and subsequent migration failure may occur because the Panorama virtual appliance for ESXi explicitly does not support using VMware vMotion to migrate the appliance from one ESXi server to another

Resolution

Since vMotion is unsupported, administrators must not use this feature to migrate the Panorama virtual appliance.
