• You are trying to do minor patch of vCenter trough SDDC.
• This task fails with 

Reason is: InternalServerError (com.vmware.vapi.std.errors.internal_server_error) => { messages = [LocalizableMessage (com.vmware.vapi.std.localizable_message) => { id = vapi.method.invoke.exception, defaultMessage = Error in method invocation Timeout happens while waiting for task to terminate, args = [Timeout happens while waiting for task to terminate], params = <null>, localized = <null> }], data = <null>, errorType = INTERNAL_SERVER_ERROR }.

 

• Attempting resolution from this article vCenter patch upgrade to 8.0.U3d upgrade fails with "Timeout happens while waiting for task to terminate" and "INTERNAL_SERVER_ERROR" makes no difference.

SDDC 5.2.x

Cause

Timeout of task in vCenter 

Resolution

As this is minor patch to resolve this patch vCenter trough VAMI and then sync inventory in SDDC.

 

1. Make sure to have backup of vCenter and SDDC in place before running below steps
2. For updating vCenter follow these steps
   Patching/Updating VMware vCenter Server through Appliance Management Interface VAMI
3. After upgrade is finished follow below steps to syncronize inventory
   Synchronize inventory versions after out-of-band upgrade in a VMware Cloud Foundation Environment
