Issue/Introduction

Product/Component: Performance Center, Spectrum, FortiGate Devices

Problem: When monitoring a FortiGate device through Spectrum and viewing it in Performance Center, certain metrics (e.g., current sessions) are not visible. An SNMP walk confirms that the OIDs are accessible and the SNMP configuration is correct, but the Metric Family for these values does not appear in Performance Center. Running an "Update Metric" operation does not resolve the issue.

Environment

  • Performance Center
  • Spectrum integration
  • FortiGate Network Devices

Cause

The required Metric Family (specifically the "System Session Information" metric family) is not included in the monitoring profile currently assigned to the device.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must ensure the "System Session Information" metric family is included in the device's monitoring profile:

  1. Modify/Create Monitoring Profile:
    • Navigate to the Performance Center administration console.
    • Create a new monitoring profile or edit the existing one assigned to the device.
    • Add the "System Session Information" metric family to this profile.
  2. Assign Profile:
    • Ensure your FortiGate device is included in a collection or group.
    • Assign the updated monitoring profile to that collection/group.
  3. Update Metrics:
    • Locate the device in the Performance Center device inventory.
    • Perform an "Update Metric" operation on the device to refresh the metric family associations.
  4. Verification:
    • Verify that the "System Session Information" metric family now appears for the device and that the expected metrics (e.g., current sessions) are reporting correctly in your dashboards.
