Issue/Introduction

Unable to configure the VMware Identity Broker (VIDB) for the VMware Aria Automation 9.1 component within VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Operations.

Symptoms:

  • VMware Aria Automation (VCFA) is missing from the Identity & Access management portal.
  • Checking the endpoint https://<VCF_OPS_FQDN>/casa/services does not list the VCFA component.
  • The component-manager-plugin logs show the following error:
Unable to tunnel through proxy. Proxy returns "HTTP/1.1 407 Proxy Authentication Required"
  • A failed VcfaCreateServiceAccountTask is visible in the Management Tasks UI.

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation Automation (VCFA) 9.1
  • VCF Operations 9.1

Cause

This issue occurs because the service account creation task for VMware Aria Automation fails when a network proxy blocks the request.

Since the task cannot bypass the proxy, the service account required to register VMware Aria Automation with VCF Operations is never created. Consequently, the component does not appear under Identity & Access > VCF Management.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must execute a retry of the failed task once the proxy configuration is validated or disabled:

  1. Log in to VCF Operations as an Administrator.
  2. Disable the network proxy configured in VCF Operations (Administration > Configuration > Global Settings > Proxy Configuration).
  3. Navigate to Fleet Management > Lifecycle > VCF Management > Management Tasks.
  4. Locate the failed Create Service Account task associated with the VMware Aria Automation component.
  5. Click the vertical ellipsis (three dots) next to the failed task and select Retry.
  6. Once the task completes successfully, verify that the VCFA component appears under Identity & Access.
