Issue/Introduction

• Administrators require a method to configure automated email notifications and alert definitions when Aria Operations detects abnormal behavior or anomalous metrics, such as CPU usage higher than baseline, disk usage pattern changes, or memory utilization abnormalities.
• This configuration procedure allows for proactive monitoring of environment health by triggering SMTP email notifications based on learned baselines and threshold behaviors.

Resolution

Follow these steps to configure an alert definition for anomalous metrics and associate it with an SMTP email notification rule.

1. Navigate to Troubleshoot > Workbench and select the specific anomalous metric (e.g., VM Name multiple abnormal behaviors detected) to configure.
   
2. Click the Create Alert Definition icon (represented by a box icon) located in the top-right corner of the interface.
3. In the Create Alert Definition dialog, define the alert parameters:
   • Symptom Conditions: Ensure the metric behavior matches the anomaly detected.
   • Severity: Assign a priority level.
   • Threshold Values: Confirm the baseline or static values required to trigger the alert.
4. Save the alert definition.
5. Create a notification rule to associate the alert with the outbound SMTP method:
   • Go to Configure > Alerts > Notifications.
   • Add a new rule selecting the previously created alert definition.
   • Select the outbound SMTP plugin and provide the recipient email addresses.
