"Unable to generate file. moRef" error when attempting to export SRM configuration

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to export the Site Recovery Manager (SRM) configuration, the error "Unable to generate file: moRef" occurs. This article provides troubleshooting steps for resolving this error, focusing on Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) log management and configuration data consistency.

Environment

VMware vCenter 8.x

VMware Site recovery 9.X,8.X

Cause

Orphaned array pairs or protection groups remaining in the SRM database after ABR (Array Based Replication) is decommissioned.

Resolution

Verify Configuration Data (If SRA log cleanup fails) If the error continues after cleaning logs, orphaned configuration data may be the cause.

1. Log in to the SRM interface.

2.Review Protection Groups and Array Pairs.

3.Identify any array pairs or protection groups associated with decommissioned Array Based Replication (ABR).

4.Unprotect VMs that are no longer part of active replication.

5.Remove the orphaned protection groups.

6.Delete the stale array pairs.

7.Attempt the configuration export again.
