Issue/Introduction

Applying VMware Aria Automation patch 8.18.1 Cumulative Update #5 using VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle appears successful after 15 minutes, but the update does not apply. Running vracli version patch via an SSH session to the Aria Automation appliance does not display the expected Update 5 build (build 25428648) in the installed patches list.

The upgrade-noop.log indicates a successful start of patching, but the subsequent upgrade-<date>-<time>.log reveals the following errors:

[ERROR][<date> <time>][<vcfafqdn>] Creating upgrade plan failed.

vmware_vrlcm.log shows entries similar to:

Cause

The patch binary mapped in VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle for Patch 5 was corrupted. Once Aria Automation began the patch sequence, it was unable to proceed and failed to create the upgrade plan from the installable binary.

Resolution

1. Navigate to the VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager UI and delete the existing Patch 5 binary mapping from the repository to purge the corrupted or duplicate binary.
2. Download a fresh, verified copy of the VMware Aria Automation 8.18.1 Patch 5 payload directly from the Broadcom Support Portal.
3. Re-map the correct, newly downloaded binary into VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager.
4. Re-trigger the patch deployment workflow from the VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager UI using the validated Patch 5 binary.
