Unable to select External Network in VMware Cloud Director tenant portal due to selection limit

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to connect a VMware Cloud Director (VCD) Edge Gateway to an External Network, the required network cannot be selected.

In the VMware Cloud Director tenant portal, navigating to Data Centers > Edge Gateway > External Networks > Connect New opens the New External Network Connection dialog.

When clicking the Select Network drop-down menu, only 5 external networks are displayed, preventing selection of the intended network if it does not appear in the initial list.

Cause

This is expected behavior. The VMware Cloud Director user interface limits the initial drop-down view in the Select Network field to a maximum of 5 items to optimize performance.

Resolution

To select an external network that is not displayed in the initial 5 results:

1. Open the VMware Cloud Director tenant portal.

2. Navigate to Data Centers > Edge Gateway > External Networks > Connect New.

3. Click inside the Select Network field.

4. Begin typing the exact name or partial name of the desired external network.

5. The drop-down menu will dynamically filter and display the matching network for selection
