VCF Operations

Issue/Introduction

  • vCenter Server does not appear under ManageLicensing →  Licenses & RegistrationvCenter Systems in VCF Operations .
  • Hosts fail to apply licenses in the vSphere Client.
  • vSphere Client displays a red banner: "One or more vCenter instances are not connected to a license server."
  • License synchronization fails after upgrade/redeployment of VCF Operations from version 9.0 to 9.1
  • VCF Management Services and License Server is deployed
  • License Server is registered with VCF Operations
  • In vSphere Client UI the license displayed in AdministrationLicensingVersion 9+ Licenses is an unfamiliar license that is expired.

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1.x
  • VMware vCenter Server 9.1.0.0200.25573614

Cause

VCF 9.1 introduces a centralized License Server component. If vCenter is upgraded or redeployed before the VCF Operations instance is upgraded and the License Server appliance is
deployed, vCenter cannot synchronize its license state.

Resolution

  1. Log in to the VCF Operations UI as admin.
  2. Navigate to Operate → Administration → IntegrationsvCenter.
  3. Select the affected vCenter name and click Manage Integration.
  4. Toggle the "License and vSphere Client plug-in management for all vCenter systems associated with this account are active" slider to Off to unlicense the vCenter server.
  5. Wait approximately 15 minutes to allow the background synchronization to remove the vCenter from the Licensing page and transition the vCenter into evaluation mode.
  6. Return to the Manage Integrations page and toggle the "License and vSphere Client plug-in management for all vCenter systems associated with this account are active" slider back to On.
  7. Go back to Integrations page and select the vCenter server, then click Activate Management to confirm it is activated.
  8. Go to ManageLicenseLicense & Registration and Assign Primary to re-assign the license key.
  9. Sign into vSphere Client and confirm the red banner "One or more vCenter instances are not connected to a license server." is  no longer displayed
