EMI Monitoring Metrics Stop Refreshing After Upgrade to Version 24.4.5

Issue/Introduction

After upgrading to Automic Automation version 24.4.5, the External Monitoring Interface (EMI) connects successfully, but metrics fail to refresh. This behavior relates to a security change that mandates higher privileges for the service user.

Symptoms:

• EMI service starts and connects.
• Metrics do not refresh after the initial connection.
• Stdout of the emi contains the following error: Exception in thread "Collector" java.lang.SecurityException: No privilege for Administration.

Environment

EMI  (External Monitoring Interface) 24.4.5 and 26.0.0

Cause

Security change DE205157 introduced a requirement for the 'Administration' privilege to access the User list and other system information via the API. The EMI service user requires this privilege to perform periodic metric collection.

Resolution

Solution:

1. Identify the user configured in the emi.ini file under [GLOBAL] user=....
2. Log in to the Automic Web Interface (AWI) as an Administrator in Client 0.
3. Navigate to the User Management section.
4. Select the user identified in step 1.
5. In the Privileges tab, enable Access to Administration.
6. Save the changes.
7. Restart the EMI service.

Behavior improvement:

On the issue DE209913 an improvement of the current behavior will be implemented: if the necessary permissions are not granted to the user, an error message will appear in the log and / or the application will stop gracefully.

Update to a fix version listed below or a newer version if available.
