Error "Unable to open the page." when using a shared dashboard link

Issue/Introduction

The VCF Operations dashboard was shared, but when the recipient used the URL they saw "Unable to open the page." in their browser.

• Reviewing the /storage/vcops/log/web.log shows the messages

  Function call UserAuthentication.impersonateUser failed :FunctionException: com.vmware.vcops.platform.gemfire.GemfireFunction$MethodInvocationException: UserAuthException: User does not have any role to log in to system

  User: Anonymous, ip: #.#.#.# failed to login.

Environment

VCF Operations 9.1.x

Cause

When a shared dashboard URL is used, the web session is authenticated by impersonating the user that shared the dashboard. If that user has no role assigned in VCF Operations, it results in "Unable to open the page" being displayed in the browser.

Resolution

Assign a role to the user and create a new shared dashboard link

1. Log in to VCF Operations and navigate to Operate > Administration > Control Panel > Access Control

2. Click the vertical three dots button next to the user account and select Edit

3. Assign the correct role and scope for the user In the Assign Roles and Scope section and click Save

4. Create a new shared URL for the dashboard - Share Dashboards with Users
