Issue/Introduction

The on-premises HCX Manager is disconnected from the Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE) cloud endpoint. The HCX Manager lost its authenticated session to vCenter, resulting in a WaitForUpdatesEx SOAP failure.

Environment

  • VMware HCX
  • Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE)
  • VMware vCenter

Cause

The HCX-to-vCenter session is disrupted when a vSphere stack update completes on the GCVE endpoint. This update process drops the active session, causing an authentication failure that requires either re-authentication or an HCX service restart.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, refresh the authentication between HCX and vCenter by following these steps:

  1. Log into the HCX Manager Admin interface at https://[HCX-Manager-IP]:9443.
  2. Navigate to Configuration > SSO.
  3. Click Edit, re-enter your vCenter/SSO credentials, and click Save.
  4. Log into the HCX Manager UI at https://[HCX-Manager-IP].
  5. Navigate to Site Pairing, select your pairing, and use the Edit option to re-validate the connection using the remote site credentials.
