Issue/Introduction

Desktop Client (DC) log keeps growing and is not rolling over.

Environment

ESP dSeries / Workload Automation DE: 12.4 or above

Cause

If the DC encounters an exception when attempting to roll over the logs, it will continue writing to the same log file.  This will cause the log to  grow to several GB.  Default log size is 10MB and it keeps four archive copies, with a total of five internal_trace logs.

Resolution

Several process like an anti-virus, backup, sync, or scanning program can interfere with the DC workspace directory.  The workspace directory is created in the home directory of the users, e.g. C:/users/user1234/workspace-cawa or in macOS /Users/user1234/workspace-cawa.

It is recommended to exclude the workspace from scanning and syncing.  The workspace directory doesn't need to be backed up as it doesn't store any Workload data.  All DE workload data is kept in the database.  If the directory is lost or deleted, the only impact is that users will need to recreate the connections to the DE server when the DC starts up again.
