Issue/Introduction

This article clarifies if the Symantec Management Platform (SMP Server or Notification Server (NS)) sends automatic SMTP-based email alerts or notifications for license expiration.

Does SMP server send automatic email notifications for license expiration?

Environment

ITMS (IT Management Suite) 8.7.x, 8.8.x

Resolution

SMP server does not automatically send email notifications or SMTP-based alerts when licenses are near expiration or expired.

To check the License Expiry date  :

1. Open the Symantec Installation Manager.
2. Select the "Add/Update licenses" link.
3. Review the License status to determine the expiry date.
    
   
   
   
   

Using Automation Policies

The Product License AUP Expiration Notice automation policy is typically used to monitor and notify administrators about the upcoming expiration of Annual Upgrade Protection (AUP) or product licenses. However, you need to manually enable it and configure it.

You can find it under SMP Console > Manage > Automation Policies

There are 2 automation policies that should provide a way to alert you about license expiration and license usage:

• Product License AUP Expiration Notice: Sends notification when licenses are due to expire soon.
• Product License Count Notice: Sends notification when more than 90% of available licenses are in use.
