Unable to observe the traffic flow between the client and the backend server in AON UI

Issue/Introduction

The customer has a traffic flow configured as shown below. They expect to observe the end-to-end flow between the client and the backend server; however, it is not visible in the AON UI."

Client <-> Tier-0 <-> TGW <-> LB VIP <-> Backend Server(VM)

Cause

This is by design. The traffic flow between the client and the LB VIP is not reported because there is no Virtual Interface (VIF) involved.

Resolution

Depending on the IPFIX configuration, the following traffic visibility is observed:

• When both vCenter IPFIX and NSX IPFIX are enabled: We are unable to observe the end-to-end flow between the client and the backend server; however, the flow between the LB (SNAT IP) and the backend server is visible.

• When IPFIX is enabled on the DVPG (where NSX Edges are connected) and NSX IPFIX is disabled: The flow between the client and the LB VIP becomes visible.
