Issue/Introduction

  • After a virtual machine is migrated via vMotion, VM traffic fails to exit the host.
  • After Edge vMotion to a ESXi or VM vMotion result in BFD tunnels to go down.
  • Troubleshooting the down BFD tunnels revealed that control packets leave the source ESXi host but are never received by the destination ESXi host, causing the tunnels to remain in a down state.

Environment

  • VMware ESXi 8.x
  • VMware NSX

Cause

The physical NIC is incorrectly dropping packets.

Resolution

This is a known issue in ESXi 8.0 U3. Broadcom Engineering is aware of it and is actively working on a fix, which will be included in an upcoming ESXi release.
