What is the difference between CHASSIS DOWN (0x10f69) and DEVICE HAS STOPPED RESPONDING TO POLLS (0x10009) alarms?
Release: All current releases.
Component: SPCAEM: Events and Alarms
“CHASSIS DOWN” and “DEVICE HAS STOPPED RESPONDING TO POLLS” alarms are effectively the same thing – both mean that the device is unresponsive, and most likely down. We get “CHASSIS DOWN” alarms on devices where we’ve discovered the physical configuration (chassis and cards), and “DEVICE HAS STOPPED RESPONDING TO POLLS” if we haven’t. If you look at the symptoms of the “CHASSIS DOWN” alarm, you’ll see that a “DEVICE HAS STOPPED RESPONDING TO POLLS” alarm is also generated, but is being hidden by the “CHASSIS DOWN” alarm.
Select the "Show Symptoms" in the State tab of the Alarm Filter button to see the symptomatic alarms:
Once the change is saved, the symptomatic alarms are displayed:
Internal logic raises a Chassis Alarm in case the device has an Entity_MIB and device stopped responding to polls otherwise.
