Error 8345 Cannot update TransportNode to remove TransportZone

Issue/Introduction

When updating a Transport Node Profile (TNP) or adding a cluster to a Transport Zone in VMware NSX, the operation fails. Host Transport Nodes remain in a "Mismatch" configuration state.

• NSX Manager displays the following validation error: Validation Error 8345: Cannot update TransportNode/#### to remove TransportZone/#### as this TransportZone has LogicalSwitches with # Vif Attachment(s).
• Hosts show an NSX Configuration status of Mismatch.
• The intended Transport Node Profile cannot be realized on the hosts.

Cause

This issue occurs because the target Transport Node Profile (TNP) lacks a Transport Zone that is currently in use by active Virtual Machines (VIFs) on the ESXi hosts.
NSX protective logic prevents the removal of a Transport Zone while it has active attachments to prevent a Datapath outage for running workloads.

Resolution

Follow these steps to resolve the configuration mismatch:

1. Identify the specific Logical Switches and Virtual Machines causing the conflict by searching for the Transport Zone UUID in the NSX Manager Global Search.
2. Select one of the following remediation paths based on the desired configuration:
   • To retain the Transport Zone: Modify the Transport Node Profile applied to the cluster to include the missing Transport Zone.
   • To remove the Transport Zone: Migrate all Virtual Machines off the associated Logical Switches or disconnect their network adapters.
3. Navigate to System > Fabric > Nodes > Host Transport Nodes.
4. Click the Mismatch status link for the affected hosts.
5. Select Match Cluster Configuration to re-synchronize the profile.
