Provisioning machine fails with error "Unable to create network resources for machine" in VMware Aria Automation 8.18.1

Issue/Introduction

• In VMware Aria Automation 8.18.1, running a machine provisioning automation workflow fails with the following error:

  Unable to create network resources for machine
  

• This error occurs even when network pools are configured with defined IP ranges.

Environment

• VMware Aria Automation 8.18.1
• VMware vCenter Server Distributed Virtual Port Groups (DVPG)

Cause

• Tags applied directly to Distributed Virtual Port Groups (DVPGs) interfere with extensibility workflows (such as Network Configure event topics). When DVPGs contain conflicting or unintended tags, the network selection logic cannot identify the correct network resource during dynamic allocation.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, remove the conflicting tags from the port groups:

1. Log in to VMware vCenter Server.

2. Locate the Distributed Virtual Port Groups (DVPGs) associated with the deployment.

3. Remove unnecessary or conflicting tags assigned to the DVPGs.

4. Re-run the machine provisioning automation workflow in VMware Aria Automation.
