Issue/Introduction

When attempting to log in with valid credentials, the login fails and displays an "Access Denied. Unable to authenticate the user" error message, preventing access to the application.

The following warning is observed in the application log:

026-07-22T16:11:47,460 WARN  (pool-100-thread-1) [;;;] com.vmware.horizon.system.time.ClockFactory - Failed to check remote clock

Environment

VMware Identity Manager 3.3.7

Cause

This issue is caused by time drift on the appliance. The system clock is out of sync due to a failure to check or synchronize with the remote clock, which causes time-sensitive authentication requests to fail and results in the "Access Denied. Unable to authenticate the user" error.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, you must correct the time drift by updating your NTP configuration:

  1. Access your appliance's Network Time Protocol (NTP) settings on the 8443 configurator page.
  2. Configure the NTP settings to synchronize with a reachable internal or external NTP server.
  3. Verify that the appliance time successfully synchronizes.
  4. Attempt to log in to the application again to confirm the error is resolved and access is restored.
