NSX_FC Agent Degraded and Management Plane Agent Not Running on ESXi Host Transport Nodes

Issue/Introduction

In VMware NSX 9.0.0.0, an ESXi host transport node may display a Degraded status for the NSX_FC (Flow Collector) agent in the NSX Manager UI. Additionally, administrators may observe that the nsx-mpa (Management Plane Agent) service is not running on the ESXi host.

• In the NSX Manager UI (System > Fabric > Nodes > Host Transport Nodes), the host status is Degraded.
• The agent status breakdown shows NSX_FC as Degraded, while other agents (e.g., NSX_VSWITCH, NSX_CT) remain Up.
• Virtual Machines may show as network disconnected despite being attached to an NSX-managed portgroup.
• Running /etc/init.d/nsx-mpa status on the ESXi host returns: NSX-Management-Plane-Agent is not running
• Attempting to start the service manually returns: Unable to add rp for mpa Not starting decommissioned NSX-Management-Plane-Agent

Cause

The issue is caused by NSX JDK bug

NSX managers are not operating properly despite no other alarms are raised. 

Resolution

The issue is resolved in VCF 9.0.1.0 or above, impacted customers should upgrade their VCF stack as soon as possible. 

If upgrading is not feasible immediately, please perform following workaround by doing a rolling reboot of NSX manager cluster: 

• Reboot the first NSX Manager.
• SSH to a Manager as admin user and check cluster health: get cluster status
• When all services report up on all 3 NSX Manager nodes, reboot the next Manager.
• Repeat steps 2-3 for the third Manager.
