Alarm fails to trigger when metric data ingestion stops (Missing metric / heartbeat Absence).

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to configure an Alarm using Metric Groups to alert when a metric stops feeding/ingesting into DXO2 (data absence), the alarm fails to trigger.

 

Cause

Generating an alarm without any metric is not supported. 

Resolution

Add metric that has always 0 as part of workaround to your alarm definiton.

Because the alarm evaluation engine relies on active metric evaluation within a group, having zero incoming datapoints prevents the condition evaluation from executing, causing the alarm trigger to fail.
