"NEXT" button grayed out on SSO credentials page in vCenter VAMI (port 5480)

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to edit network or DNS settings in the vCenter Server Appliance Management Interface (VAMI, port 5480), the NEXT button remains grayed out and unclickable on Step 3 (SSO credentials), even after entering the correct password.

Environment

vCenter 8.x, 9.x

Cause

In the VAMI UI, the username [email protected] displayed in the Username field is a placeholder text (hint text).

Because the web browser or UI does not register this placeholder text as active user input, the system considers the Username field empty, which prevents the NEXT button from being enabled.

Resolution

To resolve this issue and proceed with the network configuration:

1. Navigate to Step 3 (SSO credentials) in the Edit Network Settings wizard.

2. Click directly into the Username text box.

3. Manually type the full Single Sign-On (SSO) administrator username (e.g., [email protected]).

4. Enter the corresponding password.

5. Once both fields contain active input, the NEXT button will become active/clickable.

6. Click NEXT to complete the wizard.
