Health and Event Reporting options for NSX

Issue/Introduction

Users may require a formatted health report or event log summary for NSX environments to align with reporting requirements.

Symptoms:

• Request for NSX Health Report templates.
• Need for Event Reports in CSV, PDF, or JSON format.

VMware NSX 

VMware Aria Operations for Logs (formerly vRealize Log Insight)

VMware Aria Operations (formerly vRealize Operations)

VCF Operations for Networks (formerly vRealize Network Insight - vRNI)

 

Cause

VMware NSX native UI and architecture are designed for real-time monitoring via dashboard widgets and REST APIs rather than embedded static document generation.

Resolution

NSX does not provide a built-in downloadable health report template. Health monitoring is performed through the UI widgets or API calls. For formal reporting, integration with Aria Operations for Logs or Aria Operations or VCF operations for Networks is required.

Accessing Health Data in NSX

• Log in to the NSX Manager UI.
• Navigate to System > Fabric > Nodes to view host and manager health status.
• Use the NSX API to retrieve health status in JSON format.

Generating Reports using Aria Operations for Logs

• Ensure NSX is integrated with Aria Operations for Logs.
• Navigate to the Interactive Analytics tab.
• Filter for the desired NSX events.
• Click the Export icon to generate a report in CSV or PDF format.

Monitoring via Aria Operations

• Integrate the VMware Management Pack for Cloud Provider Pod or NSX Management Pack into Aria Operations.

• Navigate to the dashboards and view the NSX Health widget for component monitoring.

Fetch Reports using VCF Operations for Networks (vRNI):

• Ensure NSX Manager is added as a Data Source in Aria Operations for Networks.
• Navigate to Plan & Analyze > Events or run search queries for NSX entities.
• Navigate to Settings > Analytics & Reports or export custom search query results to CSV/PDF for executive reporting.
