Issue/Introduction

In VMware Cloud Foundation Operations 9.x.x, attempting to update licenses following the 180-day usage cycle fails, does not take effect, or does not change the end date.

The VCF Operations Business Console User Interface displays a notification similar to: Next Usage Report is required on <Date>

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Foundation 9.x
  • VMware Cloud Foundation Operations 9.x
  • VMware vSphere Foundation 9.x

Cause

VMware Cloud Foundation and vSphere Foundation licenses expire if usage is not provided after 180 days or when the subscription expires. If the subscription expires before the usage is due - the expiration of the license is the end date. If the subscription is not renewed, updating the license by providing a usage file will not extend the end date.

Resolution

To resolve this issue and restore license update functionality:

  1. Coordinate directly with the assigned account management team, fulfillment representative, or licensing distributor to execute a subscription renewal.
  2. Once the contract renewal is completed, update the your license in VCF Operations.
    1. If in connected mode, see Update Licenses in Connected Mode.
    2. If in disconnected mode, see Report License Usage and Update Licenses in Disconnected Mode.
  3. If your renewal results in a new contract or subscription (also called a serial number) - your end date may not update automatically for your license. If this is your situation:
    1. From VCF Business Services console (vcf.broadcom.com), go to "License Management" -> "Licenses" and click the license you want to extend the end date for.
    2. Click "Actions" -> "Change Capacity"
    3. Increase the capacity of the license by the newly purchased contract/subscription and click "Next" -> "Finish".
    4. Update your licenses in VCF Operations following the instructions above.
  4. For portal entitlement discrepancies, missing entitlements, or contract mapping adjustments, open a request with the Global Customer Assistance (GCA) team. Technical support engineers do not have administrative clearance to modify contract expiration dates or change contract mappings.
