VCF Operations for Networks

Issue/Introduction

In VCF 9.0 and later, the NSX Manager data source in VCF Operations for Networks may display the following error:

"Data collection failed due to an error. Please wait for some time."

Unlike older versions (e.g., AON 6.14.x), you cannot resolve this by toggling the Data Collection switch in the local UI. The toggle button is locked, and the UI displays the following message:

"This datasource is being managed via VCF Operations."

Note: If you are experiencing this issue in Aria Operations for Networks (AON) 6.14.x, please refer to KB 413273 for the relevant workaround.

Environment

VCF Operations for Networks 9.0.2.0

Cause

Intermittent NSX API communication errors cause the data collection task to fail or hang.

Starting in VCF 9.1, data sources are centrally managed by VCF Operations. As a result, the local "Disable/Enable" data collection buttons in VCF Operations for Networks are disabled.

Resolution

To reset the NSX data collection and resolve the error in VCF 9.1 and later environments, perform the following steps:

1. Log in to the VCF Operations GUI.

2. Navigate to Operations > Administrator > Integrations > Account > Cloud Foundation.

3. Locate the target NSX account entry and click Edit.

4. Uncheck the Network & Flow checkbox.

5. Save the changes and wait 5–10 minutes for the collection state to update.

6. Edit the NSX account again, re-check the Network & Flow checkbox, and click Save.

7. Allow 1 to 2 polling cycles (approx. 30–45 minutes) for the collector to synchronize.

8. Refresh the VCF Operations for Networks UI and verify that the error banner has cleared and the NSX Manager data source status returns to healthy.
