Error: Jira issue fails to sync to Rally due to description character limit during conversion

Issue/Introduction

A Jira issue fails to be created or synchronized in Rally because the description exceeds the 32k character limit. This occurs even when the original Jira description is significantly smaller (e.g., 7k characters) because the conversion to Rally HTML expands the character count due to excessive styling (tables, bolding, lists).

Symptoms

• Jira issues fail to sync to Rally.
• Error logs indicate the description is greater than 32,000 characters.
• The Jira description contains heavy markdown or HTML styling.

Environment

• ConnectALL On-Prem
• ConnectALL SaaS
• Jira to Rally Integration

Cause

The description conversion process to Rally HTML is inefficient when handling large amounts of markdown styling, causing the final character count to exceed the Rally API limit of 32,768 characters.

Resolution

Fixed in release 4.2.2 and higher.

1. Update ConnectALL to 4.2.2 or higher
2. Re-sync the affected Jira issues.
