Switching one VM from the network it's connected to (DVPortGroup), to a different network is simple - Edit Settings and change the network.
However, when many VMs from a network need to be switched to a different network, and they are all connected to a DVSwitch (Distributed Virtual Switch), this KB can provide a way. This applies to both situations where NSX-backed DVPortGroups are in use or non-NSX-backed-DVPortGroups are in use (regular VLAN-backed DVPortGroups). This does not apply to the standard vSwitch (VSS).
VMware ESXi 8.x
VMware vCenter Server 8.x
Distributed Virtual Switch (VDS) 8.x
To mass move several VMs from one network (DVPortGroup) to a different network (a different DVPortGroup) follow the steps below:
Note: this may cause a brief interruption in network connectivity especially for VMs that have a high volume of network I/O.
