Issue/Introduction

When managing VMware Live Cyber Recovery (VLCR) protection groups, backup tasks fail to execute at their scheduled Recovery Point Objective (RPO) intervals.

Symptoms:

• Administrators observe skipped snapshot events in the VLCR console when monitoring scheduled backups.

• The following warning alert appears in the events tab:

  • Error: Warning Alert : Snapshot '#### - Every #### minutes - #### UTC' was skipped because 'another snapshot for the same group #### is in progress'

• Monitoring tasks indicate that a previous data transfer task has been running for an extended period, attempting to sync terabytes of data to the Cloud file system.

Environment

VMware Live Cyber Recovery (VLCR) 9.0.11

Cause

This is expected behavior. If the VLCR appliance experiences downtime or a network disconnection, large amounts of pending data accumulate. When the appliance comes back online, the initial snapshot synchronization takes significantly longer than usual to transfer the backlogged data to the recovery SDDC file system.

Subsequent scheduled snapshots skip automatically because the previous snapshot task for the same protection group is still actively running. VLCR prevents concurrent snapshots for the same group to maintain data integrity.

Resolution

No direct intervention is required. The data transfer is working as expected.

To resolve the skipped alerts, allow the current data transfer task to finish:

1. Open the VLCR console.

2. Navigate to VLCR Protection group > [Protection Group Name] > Events.

3. Monitor the data transfer progress.

4. Once the backlogged data reaches 100% and the active task completes, the subsequent scheduled snapshots resume automatically.
