Backup Retention Policies for VCF Operations 9.1.x Components / SDDC Manager-NSX Manager

Issue/Introduction

• In VCF Operations 9.1.x > Build > Lifecycle > VCF Management > Back Up and Restore, the backup retention policy is set (e.g., to 3 days)
• In NSX Manager, there is no visible option within the UI to configure.

Environment

VCF Operations 9.1.x 
VCF SDDC 9.1.x

Resolution

To ensure your backup schedules and retention policies are correctly configured for VCF Automation and Management Services:

• In VCF Operations, navigate to Build > Lifecycle > VCF Management > Backup & Restore.
• Ensure the SFTP backup location is correctly reached. On the SFTP server, LCM backups are typically stored in the path: [SFTP-Root]/backups/LCM/.

NSX Backups,  VCF 9.0/9.1 cannot natively enforce retention for NSX, manual or scripted intervention is required.

• In VCF Operations, navigate to Operate > Administration > SDDC Manager.
• NSX backups are typically stored in the path: [SFTP-Root]/backups/NSX/.
• Utilize the official NSX backup cleanup script provided in the Broadcom documentation to manage old backups on your SFTP server. Documentation: Refer to Remove Old Backups.

Additional Information

Note: An external SFTP server needs to be created prior to configuring backups, as this is not part of the VCF Operations components or core products.
