License warning when assigning license key after ESXi upgrade

Issue/Introduction

• After upgrading  ESXi from 7.0 to 8.0, assigning a license key triggers the following warning message:
  The license does not support some of the features that assets currently use

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0

Cause

When an ESXi host is upgraded from 7.0 to 8.0, it automatically defaults to Evaluation Mode. This mode temporarily enables all features equivalent to the vSphere Enterprise Plus edition.

If a license key for a lower edition (such as vSphere Standard) that does not include these advanced features is subsequently assigned, this warning appears to notify you that the Enterprise Plus features currently active in Evaluation Mode will become unavailable once the key is applied.

Resolution

1. Verify that the assigned license key matches the intended edition (e.g., vSphere Standard).

2. If a lower-edition key is being assigned intentionally after the upgrade, acknowledge and safely ignore the warning message.

3. If an incorrect license key was selected by mistake, verify and assign the correct license key.
