Issue/Introduction

  • SDDC Manager task hangs at "Prepare Transport Node Collection".

  • Host state in NSX is reported as "Down" despite a "Successful" configuration status.

  • The NSX agent vdl2 is down on the affected hosts.

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)

SDDC Manager

VMware NSX

Cause

The issue is caused by the TEPs (Tunnel Endpoints) failing to receive IP addresses. This occurs when:

1. The environment lacks a DHCP server and no static IP pool is configured for TEPs.

2. The Uplink Profile is misconfigured (e.g., incorrect VLAN or mismatch in LAG configuration).

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

1. Configure TEP IP Pool:

  • Log in to the NSX Manager UI.

  • Navigate to Networking > IP Management > IP Address Pools
    .
  • Create or edit an IP address pool to ensure a sufficient range of static IPs is available for the TEPs.

  • Ensure the Gateway IP and correct Subnet Mask are defined.

2. Verify Uplink Profile:

  • Navigate to System > Fabric > Profiles > Uplink Profiles.

  • Update the associated uplink profile with the correct VLAN ID and teaming policy.

  • Verify that the LAG settings match the physical switch configuration if LACP is used.

3. Resync Inventory:

  • Log in to the SDDC Manager UI.

  • Navigate to the affected Workload Domain.

  • Perform an Inventory Resync to update the SDDC Manager database with the latest NSX configurations.

4. Complete Host Addition:

  • Retry the "Add Host" or "Expand Cluster" task in SDDC Manager.
