Issue/Introduction

Users are unable to log in to the Service Operations Insight (SOI) User Interface (UI) if their password contains the section sign character (§).

Note: Logging into the SOI Console (oneclick.jnlp) using the same password may still work, but web UI authentication fails

Environment

  • Product: CA Service Operations Insight (SOI) Version: 4.3 (including CU3)

Cause

According to the SOI documentation, supported special characters for passwords include standard ASCII alphanumeric characters, hyphens, and underscores. The section sign (§) is not a standard ASCII character and is therefore not supported by the SOI UI authentication mechanism.

Resolution

An enhancement request was submitted to allow the § character in passwords for the SOI UI. After review, Product Management determined that this change will not be implemented at this time.

Workaround: To resolve this issue, users must ensure their passwords do not contain the § character. Advise users to reset or update their passwords (including LDAP/Active Directory passwords if integrated) to only use supported ASCII alphanumeric characters, hyphens, or underscores.
