Identify processes consuming compute resources in Aria Operations

Issue/Introduction

• Unable to see individual Windows/Linux process consumption in the Aria Operations console.
• Only overall VM CPU/Memory demand is visible at the hypervisor level.

Environment

• VMware Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

Standard VM monitoring captures data at the hypervisor boundary. Internal process-level visibility requires an OS-level agent to collect metrics from within the Guest OS.

Resolution

To identify high-resource processes, install and configure the Telegraf agent for OS and Application Monitoring:

1. In the Aria Operations console, navigate to Configure > Infrastructure > OS & Application Monitoring.
2. Select the target VM and click Install Agent.
3. Once the agent status is "Running," navigate to the Metrics tab for that VM.
4. Expand the Guest or Operating System metric groups to view per-process CPU and Memory utilization.
