Issue/Introduction

F5 BigIP devices may report an incorrect "Offline" or "0" status for failover metrics in DX NetOps Performance Management, even when the device is Active. This occurs because the system incorrectly prioritizes a legacy vendor certification using deprecated OIDs.

Symptoms

  • Metrics such as "Pct of Time in Active state" or "Time in Active State" show 0 or incorrect values.
  • Dashboards show the device as "Offline" while it is functional.
  • SNMP walk shows the device responding to sysCmFailoverStatusId (1.3.6.1.4.1.3375.2.1.14.3.1), but PM is polling sysAttrFailoverUnitMask (1.3.6.1.4.1.3375.2.1.1.1.1.19).

Cause

The legacy vendor certification F5BigIPSystemStatusMib uses the sysAttrFailoverUnitMask OID, which was deprecated by the vendor in 2012. If this certification is ranked higher in the priority list than the modern F5BigIPSysStatusMib, the Data Aggregator will collect incorrect data.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, adjust the Vendor Certification priority:

  1. Log in to the DX NetOps Portal as an administrator.
  2. Navigate to Administration > Data Aggregator Selection > Monitoring Configuration.
  3. Select Vendor Certifications.
  4. Locate the F5BigIPSysStatusMib (the correct certification).
  5. Increase its priority so it is ranked higher than F5BigIPSystemStatusMib.
  6. Alternatively, move F5BigIPSystemStatusMib to the bottom of the priority list.
  7. Wait for the next polling cycle to verify the data.
