Issue/Introduction

After you manually stop the database, apply Linux OS patches, and reboot the Data Repository servers, you are unable to start the database. When you attempt to start the database through adminTools, you encounter a repeating prompt for a password:

"Current password: Current password: Current password: Current password:"

Entering the correct password results in no response, no error, and the database fails to initialize.

Environment

All supported Dx NetOps Permormanace Management releases

Cause

Following the application of recent OS patches, the system's updated security or password policy inadvertently breaks the passwordless SSH configuration between the Data Repository cluster nodes. Vertica requires passwordless SSH for the dradmin user to communicate across the cluster; if the password has expired or the SSH keys are no longer accepted due to policy changes, the startup process loops on the password prompt.

Resolution

You must restore passwordless SSH connectivity between all nodes in the Data Repository cluster. Refer Set Up the Install User for Passwordless SSH
