VMs on Overlay Networks Do Not Display NSX Manager Field in Aria Operations for Networks (vRNI)

Issue/Introduction

In VMware Aria Operations for Networks (formerly vRealize Network Insight / vRNI), select Virtual Machines (VMs) deployed on overlay networks do not display the NSX Manager field or associated NSX data in the user interface.

Even though these VMs are actively running on overlay networks, the UI acts as if there is no NSX integration present for them.

Environment

• VMware Aria Operations for Networks 6.x
• NSX 4.x

 

Cause

This issue occurs because Aria Operations for Networks has cached invalid or expired credentials for the NSX Manager.

When the integration credentials are invalid, or if the connection is paused, Aria Operations for Networks cannot query or map the NSX manager details to the corresponding vCenter VMs. Valid credentials are required to maintain active API communication and map virtual network flows correctly.

Resolution

• Log in to your Aria Operations for Networks (vRNI) user interface as an administrator. 

• Navigate to Settings (gear icon) > Accounts and Data Sources.

• Find your NSX-T Manager in the list of active data sources. You may see a warning status or a failed collection state next to it.

• Update Credentials: Click Edit next to the NSX-T Manager entry. 

• Re-enter the NSX Manager IP/FQDN and input the correct, updated administrator credentials.

• Save and Sync: Click Submit or Save to validate the new credentials.

• Once saved, click Submit/Sync Now on both the NSX Manager and your vCenter data sources to force an immediate update of the inventory mapping.
