"UUID string too large" error when accessing VM in VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

A virtual machine appears powered on and functioning correctly within VMware vCenter Server. However, within VMware Cloud Director (VCD), the virtual machine inventory listing is unstable, intermittently appearing, disappearing, or displaying duplicate entries in the vApp or Virtual Data Center (vDC) view.

Attempting to perform management operations or open the VM configuration properties within VCD fails with the following errors:

• UUID string too large

• This operation is denied

Cause

An inventory synchronization mismatch and cache state corruption between VMware Cloud Director and the underlying vCenter Server database layer causes object synchronization tracking records to stall or fall out of alignment.

Resolution

1. Log in to the VMware Cloud Director Service Provider Portal with System Administrator privileges.
2. Navigate to Resources > Infrastructure > vSphere Resources > vCenter Servers.
3. Select the target vCenter Server mapped to the affected workload domain environment.
4. Select the relevant vCenter and click Reconnect.
5. Verify the VM status in the VCD Tenant Portal.
