Rally - Tags missing on child User Stories when applying Feature Templates in Rally

Issue/Introduction

When creating a new Feature from a saved Feature Template in Rally, tags applied to child User Stories in the template are not carried over to the newly created items. This occurs even if the tags are correctly applied at the parent Feature level.

Steps:

• Create a Feature Template that includes child User Stories with specific Tags.
• Apply the template to create a new Feature.
• The parent Feature receives the Tags correctly.
• Child User Stories are created but do not contain the Tags defined in the template.

Cause

This behavior is working as designed. Work Item Templates in Rally only capture a fixed, limited set of fields for child items (User Stories or Tasks) included in a template. Supported fields for child items are:

• Name
• Description
• Notes
• Plan Estimate

Tags are intentionally excluded from the supported field set for child items. Therefore, they are not stored during the template creation process and cannot be applied when the template is used.

Resolution

Tags must be re-applied manually to child User Stories after creating a Feature from a template.
