The deployment of service mesh fails with the error message 'failed to fetch info response from appliance'

Issue/Introduction

The service mesh deployment fails due to the failure of the deployment of  IX appliance,

As the primary engine for VMware HCX, the HCX-IX Interconnect Appliance manages data replication and virtual machine mobility. The Service Mesh deploys it automatically to serve as the direct data plane handler connecting your source and destination environments

HCX 4.x

Cause

The Tasks view within HCX UI shows following error message 

Failed to fetch the edge details for appliance: xxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxx Error"Failed to fetch edgeinfo applianceid xxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxx. Failed to get edge info response for appliance  xxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxx 

The issue may happen due to the Configuration mismatch where the Network Profile references a non-existent dvportgroup and that dvportgroup was assigned to IX appliance, causing communication issue between the HCX Manager and the NEW-IX appliance on the management network. 

 

 

 

Resolution

Troubleshooting: HCX Manager to IX Appliance Connectivity

To resolve this issue and successfully deploy the Service Mesh, verify that HCX Manager can reach the IX appliance via the management network by completing the following verification steps.

Layer 2 & Port Group Verification

1. Confirm dvport group on dvSwitch: Verify that the dvportgroup the IX appliance exists on the vSphere Standard vSwitch or Distributed vSwitch (vDS).
2. Confirm VM Connectivity: Verify the IX appliance VM is explicitly connected to the correct port group.
3. Validate Network Profiles: Ensure your HCX Network Profile maps to the correct port group or distributed port group
