Issue/Introduction

Users may inquire whether upgrading the Oracle Client on the JAWS/AAI Linux server (e.g., from version 19.30 to 19.31 for vulnerability remediation) requires updates to application paths, environment variables, or configuration files.

Question

Is an application path update or configuration change required in AAI when the server's Oracle Client is upgraded?

• Oracle Database 19c
• Linux OS

Resolution

No changes to the AAI configuration are required when upgrading the Oracle Client on the server.

AAI connects to the Oracle database using a standard Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) connection. The application communicates with the database directly using a connection URL (host, port, and service name) and a bundled JDBC driver.

AAI does not rely on the Oracle Client installation, its environment variables (such as ORACLE_HOME or LD_LIBRARY_PATH), or its configuration files (such as tnsnames.ora) to establish this connection. Consequently, upgrading or changing the path of the Oracle Client on the server does not affect AAI functionality.
