Failed to validate credentials when saving VCF cloud account endpoint in VCF Automation 9.x

Issue/Introduction

VCF Automation may lose its connection to a workload domain vCenter Server. When attempting to re-authenticate the vSphere endpoint using known working credentials, the initial validation succeeds, but the configuration fails to save. The endpoint remains in a failed state, and the UI returns the following error:

Failed to validate credentials. Error: Unable to validate endpoint of type vsphere with hostname:<FQDN>{"message":"Failed to validate credentials. Error: Failed to connect to vCenter: Error: Cannot complete login due to an incorrect user name or password."...}

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) Automation 9.x

Cause

A UI validation sequencing requirement exists where both vCenter and NSX credentials must be simultaneously present and validated in a specific order to successfully save the VCF cloud account endpoint.

Resolution

 

1. Input both the vCenter and NSX credentials into the VCF Automation UI.

2. Validate the vCenter account first.

3. Ensure both the vCenter and NSX credentials are still populated in the UI, then validate the NSX account.

4. Input both credentials again (if they cleared) and validate the vCenter account a second time. This must be done even though it was already validated in step 2.

5. Under the "Configuration" section, ensure "Allow provisioning to these datacenters" has the correct datacenter selected. This may take a few seconds to populate in the UI.

6. Verify that the Save button is enabled and click to save the cloud account.
