Issue/Introduction

When attempting to perform a discovery of storage array managers or reconfiguring array pairs in VMware Live Recovery (formerly Site Recovery Manager), the operation fails with a duplicate array error. This issue specifically impacts environments using the Hitachi Ops Center Protector Adapter.

Symptoms:

• Array Manager status shows as Failed in the Site Recovery UI.
  • The following error is displayed in the UI or recorded in vmware-dr.log: Discovered duplicate array '####' for SRA 'Hitachi Ops Center Protector Adapter for VMware Site Recovery Manager'
    
    
  • Manual reconfiguration of local and remote array pairs with correct credentials does not resolve the failure.

Environment

•  VMware Live Recovery (VLR) 9.x / VMware Site Recovery Manager (SRM) 9.x
• VMware ESXi 8.x
• SRA:  Hitachi Ops Center Protector Adapter for VMware Site Recovery Manager
• Storage :  Hitachi VSP Series managed via Hitachi Ops Center

Cause

The issue occurs because VMware Live Recovery detects that a single storage array is being reported by more than one Array Manager, creating a configuration conflict. This overlapping discovery happens because multiple Array Managers are configured to query the exact same Hitachi Ops Center IP address without proper logical segregation. Specifically, a missing filtering tag in the Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) configuration causes the Hitachi management server to expose all of its managed arrays to every querying Array Manager.

• Validation of vmware-dr.log(less /var/log/vmware/srm/vmware-dr.log) shows below details.

Resolution

1. Engage Storage Vendor: Contact Hitachi Vantara support to review the Storage Replication Adapter (SRA) configuration within the Hitachi Ops Center.
2. Request the storage team to validate and implement the missing array tagging or logical filtering mechanisms.
3. Rescan Adapters: Once the storage-side configuration is updated, log in to the Site Recovery UI, navigate to Array Based Replication > Storage Replication Adapters, and click Rescan Adapters.
4. Discover Arrays: Navigate to Array Based Replication > Array Pairs. Select the affected array pair and click Discover Arrays.
5.  Confirm that the Array Manager status returns to Connected.
